John in First Heading into Final Round of Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Leah John followed up her record-setting opening round of the Golf Iconic Classic by carding a two-under-par 70 for the second round, as she continues to sit atop the leaderboard at -9 entering the final round on Wednesday.  

Gabby Kano is also within the top 5, as the sophomore carded a 71 on Tuesday and is tied for fifth heading into the final set of 18 holes.  

Kano and John helped Nevada achieve a team score of 290 (+2), and the Pack own sole possession of fifth place at -5 after 36 holes of competition.  

John was stellar for the second consecutive day, and her second-round score of 70 brings her 36-hole total to 135 (-9), as she sits one stroke ahead of second place entering the final round.  

Beginning her round on hole 1, John picked up a bogey to start the day, however, she responded in incredible fashion. The fifth-year senior parred the next two holes before tallying a birdie on the fourth hole. She then parred three straight holes before recording another birdie on the eighth hole. John parred the ninth hole, as she entered the back nine at -1.  

John tallied six pars and two birdies on the back nine, as she completed the day at -2. 

Kano was immaculate once again, recording 12 pars and four birdies on the day. She was particularly exceptional on the front nine. Beginning her round on the first hole, Kano tallied three straight pars before earning a birdie on the fourth hole. She proceeded to par the next three holes before securing another birdie on the eighth hole. Kano parred the ninth hole, as she completed the front nine at -2.  

The sophomore tallied five pars and two birdies on the back nine, finishing the day at -1, placing her in a tie for fifth overall at -4. 

Raesa Sheikh carded a 74 (+2) on Tuesday, advancing her into a tie for 54th on the leaderboard. She recorded seven pars and five birdies throughout the second round. 

Anna Shultse shot 77 and is tied with Sheikh in the 54th position on the leaderboard at +5.  

Freshman Nikki Chindavong rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, carding a 75 (+3) for the day, and she is currently tied for 69th entering the final round. 

The Pack will return to the course for the third and final round of the Golf Iconic Classic Wednesday morning, with a shotgun start set for 7 a.m.
