RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Golf opens its 2022-23 season Sunday, teeing off at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational.
Head coach Kathleen Takaishi begins her 10th season at the Wolf Pack helm in 2022-23, as Nevada begins its nine-tournament slate. The tournament in Coeur d'Alene is the first of Nevada's four scheduled fall tournaments, as the fall slate continues with the Colonel Wolenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic (Sept. 26-27), Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational (Oct. 3-4), and The Clash at Boulder Creek (Oct. 23-25).
Sunday's and Monday's rounds in Coeur d'Alene will tee off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, with Tuesday's final round set to begin at 7:30 a.m. Nevada's first lineup of the season will consist of Victoria Gailey, Leah John, Gabby Kano, Anitra Khoth, and Raesa Sheikh.
Gailey and John are coming off of a 2021-22 season in which each golfer qualified for the NCAA Stanford Regional. Gailey was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team and turned in a scoring average of 73.39 a season ago, the second-lowest scoring average in program history.
John also made her first-career NCAA Regional appearance last season at Stanford. The postseason appearance capped a campaign in which she led the team with 88 birdies, and was medalist at The Show at Spanish Trail at four-under. John posted three top-five finishes on the season, with a scoring average of 74.03.
Kano will make her collegiate debut Sunday. The freshman from Fullerton, Calif., is a two-time PGA Southern California Junior Tour Player of the Year (2018, 2020).
Khoth played in all 10 of Nevada's events last season, posting a scoring average of 74.50 and making 51 birdies. Sheikh, a sophomore, played in two tournaments as a freshman in 2021-22, making seven birdies.
Along with the Wolf Pack, the rest of the 19-team field features host Gonzaga, Cal State Fullerton, Cincinnati, Florida International, Georgetown, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Oral Roberts, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle University, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, and Wyoming.
