STANFORD, Calif. – Victoria Gailey and
Leah John closed the final round at the Stanford Regional with Gailey tying for 30th and John tying for 58th at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
Gailey closed the tournament with a 74 during the third and final round on Wednesday. She made two birdies and remained in contention among the individual standings, finishing second in the circuit. On the seventh hole, Gailey made an eagle on a 490-yard par-five to move to two-over for the round.
Following a birdie on 10, Gailey moved to one-over and squarely in the chase for an individual berth into the NCAA Championships. She knocked in a birdie on 13, a par-four 399-yard hole that put her at even for the round. Gailey slid three spots with three straight bogeys to close the round.
Gailey finished with a 220 score which matches the lowest total in an NCAA Regional in program history. She tied Angie Yoon (220; 2000).
"It was pretty exciting for us to earn a berth into NCAA postseason," said Head Coach
Kathleen Takaishi. "It was awesome to have both Leah (John) and Victoria (Gailey) qualify for the Stanford Regional. They are excellent ambassadors for our program."
Coach Takaishi continued. "It was a good experience and now they know what they need to work on moving forward and looking toward next year."
Leah John (+20) made one birdie on two during the final 18 holes of the competition. She sank 10 pars and closed championship action with a 78 (+7) to finish 20-over. John finished with 29 pars and four birdies through 54 holes.
John's 233 score was the fifth-lowest at an NCAA Regional in program history. She finished just one shot behind Yoon's 232, which is fourth in program history.
The Pack earned two individual NCAA Regional berths in the same season for the first time in program history.
