RENO, Nev. – Nevada head volleyball coach Lee Nelson announced on Wednesday that 5'9'' libero Kia Kaohelaulii (Saint George, Utah) has signed a letter of intent to join the Pack.
"Kia brings with her a high level of competitiveness and an innate grasp of how to play the position of libero." says head coach Lee Nelson, "She understands the speed and pacing of the game and simply knows how to make plays."
Kaohelaulii is a transfer from Salt Lake Community College. In 2020, Kia received 2nd Team All-Conference. Kaohelaulii continued to succeed in 2021, where she received 1st Team All-Conference, Player of the Year for the Scenic West Athletic Conference, Second Team All-American, and led the country in digs per set. Kia was also honored with All-Time dig leader for the season, and received most digs in one game for SLCC.
The Saint George native recorded 662 digs, averaging a 2.3 passer rating for the 2021 season.
In high school, Kia was the All-Time dig leader for Lone Peak High School. Kaohelaulii lettered in track and volleyball, while being 3x state champion from 2017 – 2019. Kia was also 1st team All-State her junior and senior years, 2nd team All-State her sophomore year, and honorable mention on her freshman year.
Kia chose Nevada over Alaska Fairbanks, College of Idaho, San Diego Christian College, New Mexico State, and New Orleans University.
