SPOKANE, WASH. – With indoor conference championships on the horizon, the Nevada Wolf Pack multis competed in their first pentathlon.

The first event in the pentathlon was the 60m hurdles, which saw the school record holder lead the Pack. Senior Nicola Ader finished in second with a time of 8.70. This time earned the senior 974 points. Freshman Kate Kadrmas would earn 867 points with her 10th place time of 9.21. Senior Hanah Smrt finished the event in 12th, with a time 862 point time of 9.23. Wrapping it up was junior Anna Maria Sommerfeld, who finished in 16th with a time of 9.38. This time earning the junior 832 points. 

The next event was the high jump. Ader would earn another second place finish with her height of 1.71m. Earning herself 867 points. Smrt would earn 724 points after her 1.59m height. Kadrmas and Sommerfeld would each earn personal bests in the high jump. Kadrmas received 689 points and a new personal best of 1.56m, while Sommerfeld received 621 points and a new personal best of 1.50m. 

In the shot put, Sommerfeld would lead the Pack with her fourth place finish of 11.11m. This earned the junior 602 points. Kadrmas finished the event in 9th, earning 575 points after her 10.70m mark. Ader would earn 551 points with her mark of 10.33m, while Smrt would earn 462 points with her mark of 8.97m. 

The long jump concluded with two Pack athletes finishing in the top-10. Ader would finish in third with a distance of 5.74m. Earning her 771 points. Smrt would earn 674 points with her eighth place mark of 5.41m. Sommerfeld finished with 548 points, while her teammate Kadrmas just finished behind her earning 519 points.

Wrapping the pentathlon up would be the 800m run. Smrt would finish with the top time of the Pack, earning both 670 points and a personal best with her time of 2:31.80. Ader finished just behind Smrt with her 669 point time of 2:31.96. Kadrmas would finish behind Ader with a time of 2:33.42. Adding 651 to her final total. Lastly, Sommerfeld would earn 539 points with her time of 2:43.00.

The final standings of the pentathlon saw Ader finish in third with a point total of 3,832. The total would be the second best in the Mountain West. Smrt would finish in 11th with a point total of 3,392, just below her personal best score of 3,434. Kadrmas finished the pentathlon in 13th with a point total of 3,301. Finally, Sommerfeld finished in 15th with a point total of 3,142.

Iesha Hamm and a couple of distance runners will look to continue competition tomorrow night in Spokane.
