RENO, Nev. -- Nevada baseball made its first appearance at NCAA Regionals since 2000 following an MW Championship in 2021 and was picked to finish first in the Mountain West heading into the 2022 season. The Pack is led by four preseason all-conference selections and opens the season with 10 straight road games, starting with a three-game series at Grand Canyon.

In 2021, the Wolf Pack went to the Stanford Regional for the third time in program history, although Nevada only has five NCAA Regionals appearances overall. Other years the Pack qualified for NCAA Regionals besides 2021 and 2000 were 1999, 1997, and 1994. Nevada punched its ticket to NCAA Regionals after it clinched its third Mountain West regular-season championship and earned the league's automatic bid last Friday evening following a 16-6 win over San Jose State. It marked the second MW regular-season title under head coach T.J. Bruce with the other coming in 2018.

Nevada was voted to finish first in the Mountain West Conference in the preseason coaches poll.  Nevada received six of seven available first-place votes and earned 36 points overall to be tabbed as the preseason selection by the coaches to finish first in the Mountain West. UNLV received one first-place vote and earned 29 points and San Diego State received 25 points. The Pack leads the MW with four representatives on the preseason All-Conference team.

BOSETTI MADE HISTORY
In his first at-bat of the game against Arizona State on April 11, 2021, Tyler Bosetti connected on his 11th home run of the season, which gave him a home run in nine consecutive games, setting a new NCAA Division I record.

Bosetti, who tied the original record of eight games that previous Sunday, broke the record previously held by Duke's Ryan Jackson in 1994, and Georgia Tech's Andy Bruce in 1991. The Vacaville, Calif. native now has 11 home runs on the season, which is tied for the team lead and ranks second in the Mountain West. Bosetti went 4-for-5 in that game against Arizona State, with a home run, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. During his nine-game home run streak, Bosetti is batted .442 with 10 home runs, two doubles, two triples, 19 hits, 21 RBI, and 20 runs scored. Bosetti's streak did end the following weekend, ending the streak at nine games.

In addition to his home runs, Bosetti has also been one of the league's best two-bag hitters this season. To date, he has hit 18 doubles, which ranks second in the Mountain West. His doubles per game average of 0.46 per game is fifth-best nationally.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES 
Collegiate Baseball released its 2022 preseason poll with Nevada ranked 50th heading into the season. Nevada is the only Mountain West program named to the Top 50. The Pack finished the 2021 season as outright Mountain West champions after posting a 22-9 conference record (25-20 overall) and NCAA Regional appearance. Nevada ended the regular season with a 15-game win streak before making its fifth NCAA Regional appearance.

Nevada returns All-Mountain West selections Tyler Bosetti, Dario Gomez, Cam Walty, and Joshua Zamora. Bosetti is coming off a dominant junior campaign where he earned Second-Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and ABCA/Rawlings to go along with All-Mountain West First Team accolades. The Vacaville, Calif., native started all 45 games for the Wolf Pack, and set single-season career-highs in nearly every offensive category including batting average (.328), hits (64), doubles (22), triples (3), home runs (11), RBI (47) and runs (46). His 22 doubles ranked 10th in the nation, and he is fourth nationally in doubles per game, averaging 0.49 per contest. Bosetti batted .382 in conference play and led the team in 

RBI, doubles, and runs scored. In May 2021, Bosetti grabbed national headlines after hitting a home run in nine consecutive games, which broke an NCAA record that had stood for 30 years.

Dario Gomez (2021 All-Mountain West First Team) also returns for the Pack after boasting a breakout 2021 season. After transferring from San Joaquin Delta College, Gomez was consistent all season, starting all 45 games in center field and ranked seventh in the nation in hits per game (1.67) and batted .393 in his first season with the Wolf Pack. The Las Vegas native led the team with 75 hits on the year and totaled 24 extra-base hits including six home runs, 16 doubles, and two triples. Gomez drove in 37 runs and scored 45 more. Gomez ranked in the top 10 in the Mountain West in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, at-bats, sacrifice bunts, and stolen bases. On the defensive side, Gomez posted a .985 fielding percentage. 

Cam Walty (2021 All-Mountain West First Team, Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American) returns to Nevada after a monstrous rookie season on the mound. The right-hander was one of the Pack's best starting pitchers in 2021 and was recognized for his strong pitching on May 10 when he was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after earning a win over UNLV and throwing a season-high 7.0 innings and giving up just two earned runs on four hits with a season-high nine strikeouts. Walty made 12 appearances in his rookie season with 11 starts. Walty went 5-3 on the year with his five wins tied for most on the team and third-most in the Mountain West. His 4.02 ERA led the Pack and ranked fourth in the conference. 

Joshua Zamora (2021 All-Mountain West Second Team) enters his redshirt senior campaign after playing in 42 of the Wolf Pack's 45 games, making 41 starts between third and second base. Zamora hit .290 on the year with 47 hits in 162 at-bats while collecting 21 extra-base hits, including 12 home runs, seven doubles, and two triples. His 12 home runs were tied for third-most in the Mountain West. The Foothill Ranch, Calif., native drove in 26 runs and scored 38 while drawing a team-high 25 walks, which were seventh-most in the conference. Zamora registered a .580 slugging percentage and recorded 12 multi-hit games.

Head Coach T.J. Bruce tabbed his second Mountain West Coach of the Year honor after leading the Pack to its first conference title since 2018.

NO-NO THROWER
RHP Jacob Biesterfeld is scheduled to start Game 2 at GCU. Biesterfeld tossed a no-hitter while at Mt. Hood CC on Apr. 11, 2021 against Chemeketa CC. Biesterfeld's no-hitter was the 9th in program history (since 1968). He threw seven innings, allowing no hits, no runs, two walks, and posted 10 strikeouts while facing 24 batters.
