RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team begins the spring section of its season on Monday, Feb. 14 in The Show at Spanish Trail hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev.
"We're looking forward getting back to competition. The team worked hard over the break, and it shows in their golf game" said Head Coach
Kathleen Takaishi. "We have had three weeks of competitive qualifying with amazing weather and several rounds under par."
Coach Takaishi continued. "Most of the team has played the course before and we plan to use this experience to our advantage. It's a good field, and we look forward to seeing how we compete against these teams."
The Pack closed a very successful fall campaign with a second-place finish in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Oct. 18. The second-place finish marked the highest for the team this season and the highest finish since taking second at the Mountain West Championships in April of 2019.
Nevada sends five golfers to compete in The Show at Spanish Trail, with the quintet of
Kaitlin Fleiner,
Leah John,
Victoria Gailey,
Anitra Khoth, and
Danni Ujimori making up the team entry.
Along with Nevada, the 16-team field features host UNLV, Augusta, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Fresno State, Furman, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, James Madison, New Mexico, North Florida, Old Dominion, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and Washington.
The action gets underway at 8:30 a.m. PST on Monday and Tuesday. The teams will be participating in a 54-hole collegiate tournament with 36 holes on the first day and 18 holes on the final day. Pairings for each day will be determined by team score. The low four individual scores will determine the team scores for each round.
The Pack has a busy spring ahead, with five tournaments prior to the Mountain West Championship on April 18-20 in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
