Women's Basketball

Nevada begins 2022-23 campaign at Saint Mary's Monday

MORAGA, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball starts the 2022-23 season on Monday, going to Saint Mary's for an 11 a.m. tipoff.

Larry Burnett will have the call on 94.1 FM and 1450 AM, with a 20 minute pregame show prior to tipoff. Fans can also listen live online through the Varsity Network. The game will be available to watch on the WCC Network and live stats can be accessed through Sidearm.

The Pack collected 20 wins in the 2021-22 season, the second-most victories in Nevada women's basketball history. After finishing third in the Mountain West, Nevada was invited to the WBI for the second time under head coach Amanda Levens.

The 2021-22 Nevada women's basketball team made national noise, finishing fourth in the nation in free throw percentage with an 80.9 mark. That percentage also ranks 11th all-time in NCAA Division I women's basketball for a single season.

In addition to ranking towards the top of the Mountain West and NCAA in free throw percentage, Nevada broke more program records in 2021-22. The Pack set the program record for 3-pointers (201) and 3-point attempts (651) last season.

Nevada's 2021-22 squad ranked in the top 10 in program history in several categories, including wins (2nd, 20), longest win streak (2nd, 7), field goals made (2nd, 821), field goals attempted (2,027), fewest points allowed average (3rd, 62.5), points (4th, 2,199) and steals (5th, 307).

The Pack rewarded sophomore forward Hannah Hartley by officially putting her on scholarship on Nov. 4. Hartley is originally from Reno and graduated from Galena High School as a three-sport athlete. She is a third-generation Nevada student as her grandmother, parents, two aunts and an uncle all graduated from Nevada.

Monday's game at Saint Mary's will be a homecoming for a pair of Pack players. Junior forward Lexie Givens (Alameda, California) will be playing 14 miles from home while junior guard Tiffany Siu (Oakland, California) will be competing 16 miles from family and friends.

Saint Mary's finished 18-15 with a 9-9 record in the West Coast Conference last season. Despite losing in the second round of the WCC Tournament, the Gaels joined Nevada in the WBI. Saint Mary's defeated Cleveland State in the WBI finals 80-73.

The Gaels return their top two leading scorers from last season in Ali Bamberger and Taycee Wedin. Bamberger scored 15.3 points per game while snagging 9.3 rebounds per game while Wedin had a 14.4 points per game average.
