SPOKANE, WASH. – The 2022 indoor track season has begun for the Nevada Wolf Pack, and some experienced veterans had some impressive marks throughout the day.
Sophomore Rayven Nealey, who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor preliminary round last year, earned two top-three finishes at the Cougar Classic Invitational. Her first being a third-place finish in the triple jump. Her distance of 11.89m earned her the mark and was just .05m away from breaking her eighth place Nevada all-time mark. She also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with her distance of 5.56m. Her first ever time competing in the event.
The long jump also saw four other Pack athletes compete, one of which also earned a top-three finish. Senior Hanah Smrt, earned a third-place finish with her distance of 5.50m. Behind Smrt was junior Gabby Fraser who tied for eighth with a mark of 5.36m. Making her first appearance with the Pack was Nebraska transfer Kate Kadrmas, who finished in 16th with a distance of 5.02m. Finishing off the group was senior Anna Maria Sommerfeld who earned a 19th place finish with a mark of 4.99m.
Also making her first appearance with the Pack was Iesha Hamm, the senior transfer from Cal State Fullerton. The senior competed in the high jump, where she finished in second place with a height of 1.70m. This mark is just below her personal best and Cal State Fullerton school record of 1.79m.
In the 60m hurdles preliminary round, Hanah Smrt finished in 12th with a time of 9.16. Just a little behind her personal best time of 9.10. In 16th was Kate Kadrmas who finished the race with a time of 9.25. Finally, Anna Maria Sommerfeld finished in 19th with her mark of 9.55.
The last event for the group of three was the shot put, which saw Sommerfeld finish in 16th with a distance of 11.00m. Kate Kadrmas would finish in 18th place and earn a new personal best in the shot put with a distance of 10.74m. Beating her old record of 9.96m. Wrapping up the group was Hanah Smrt in 20th with a distance of 8.79m.
The Nevada track team will look to keep their momentum going at the DR. MLK Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque exactly one week from today.
