COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a familiar and talented field, the Nevada men's golf team is currently fifth after round one of Gene Miranda Falcon Invite.
The Wolf Pack shot a combined 290 (+2) which was one shot ahead of Northern Colorado (+3, 291) and UTEP (+3, 291) and one shot back of Wyoming (+1, 289) in 5th place after 18 holes of play during the opening tournament of the 2021-22 season.
Trey Davis (Sr.) posted three birdies over 18 holes and was heading into the clubhouse as the Packs lone under round but a bogey on 18 dropped him to even (72, t-14) for the first round.
Junior
Adam Thorp birdied two of his first three holes to move to two-under and kept that score until seven when he hit for bogey on a 178-yard par-three dropping him to one-under for the round, which is where he entered the turn. Thorp held at one-under until the 17
th hole when a double-bogey dropped two strokes to one-over (t-25, 73) after 18 holes.
A.J. Lintunen (Sr.) was on par until seven when he shot two on a par three for his one birdie of the day. Lintunen kept that one-under round going until 15 when he hit for bogey on a 505-yard par-four to even his round and end the day with a 72 (E, t-14).
Senior
Peyton Callens paced the Pack early with a three-under score through nine holes but a four-over (40) back-nine put him into the clubhouse at one-over-par (73) and tied for 25
th. Callens recorded four birdies on the front-nine of action putting him at 33 (-3) at the turn.
Quim Vidal Mora (Sr.) played even through the front nine and found success on 11 with a birdie but hit for bogey on three of the next seven holes to manage a two-over round (t-33, 74).
The Pack looks to rise to the top as tomorrow's round-two action gets underway with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (PT) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
