Nevada in fourth with one round remaining at MW Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. – With two rounds complete at the 2021 Mountain West Championship, the Nevada men's golf team is in fourth place.

The Wolf Pack vastly improved from round one to round two on Friday, going from a 4-over team score of 292 in the morning to a 6-under 282 in the afternoon, shaving off 10 strokes between the two rounds. For the championship, Nevada sits at 2-under par and is just four shots back of Boise State for the team lead with one round remaining. The Pack is one of four teams in the 11-team field currently under par and trails UNLV for third by one shot and San Diego State for second by three shots. If Nevada can put together a strong final round on Saturday and leap over the Broncos, it would be the program's first MW championship.

With team success comes individual success as well as the Pack currently has two players inside the top 10 with 18 holes left. Sam Meek will enter the final round on Saturday just two shots back of the individual lead and in a tie for third place. Meek is at 4-under par for the championship after carding rounds of 73-67 on Friday. His second round 67, in which he collected five birdies and no bogeys, helped him jump 14 spots on the individual leaderboard and into the top five. Brendan MacDougall also is inside the top 10 as he is currently tied for ninth at 1-under par. MacDougall fired both of his rounds at par or better today with a 1-under 71 in round one and an even par 72 in round two.

Elsewhere for the Pack, Sam Harned is tied for 16th place in the 55-player field at 1-over par. Harned shot a 73 in the morning, and followed that up with an even par 72 in the afternoon. Peyton Callens turned his first round score around, going from a 3-over 75 to a 1-under 71 and is currently tied for 23rd place. Trey Davis rounds out the Pack lineup in a tie for 48th at 10-over par.
