RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – With 36 holes completed at the 2021 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship,
Victoria Gailey is just two shots back of the individual lead.
Gailey will enter Wednesday's final round in a tie for third place at even par, just two shots behind Sara Kjellker of San Diego State for the individual lead. Fresno State's Harriet Lynch is the only other player in the field of 45 who is under par as she sits at 1-under. Gailey fired an opening round 73 and followed that up with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon to sit at even par overall for the championship. She avoided anything worse than bogey on her scorecard and posted four birdies and 28 pars during her two rounds.
As a team the Wolf Pack is in a tie with San Jose State for fourth place at 26-over par. If Nevada can stay in the top five it would mark the team's fifth top five finish in this event since joining the Mountain West. San Diego State, the 47
th-ranked team in the nation, has a sizeable lead over the rest of the field as the Aztecs are 6-over par with one round left and has an 11-shot lead over No. 46 New Mexico and Fresno State.
Nevada has two players inside the top 20 at this year's championship with
Leah John in a tie for 13
th place and
Maddy Zunino in a tie for 18
th. John posted back-to-back rounds of 75 on Tuesday and is 6-over for the tournament, while Zunino shot a 77 in the morning and came back with a career-low 2-over 74 in the afternoon to put her at 7-over for the championship.
Anitra Khoth is tied for 32
nd at 13-over and
Kayla Nocum sits in 38
th place at 16-over.
