FRESNO, Calif. – With 36 holes completed at the Fresno State Classic, the Nevada women's golf team is currently tied for eighth place.
The Wolf Pack posted a team score of 304 (+16) in Monday's opening round, but turned this around in the afternoon to card a 5-over 293 in round two. Nevada's 5-over team score in the second round was the fifth-best score in the afternoon session in the 15-team field. The Pack will enter Tuesday's final round at 21-over par and tied with Santa Clara for eighth. No. 26 Stanford is running away with the team lead as the Cardinal are the only team in the field under par at 8-under. Stanford has a 12-shot lead over Fresno State and Long Beach State for the lead.
After day one the Wolf Pack has two players sitting inside the top 15 in the 84-player field.
Victoria Gailey leads the way in a tie for 12
th, while
Leah John is tied for 15
th place. Gailey turned in rounds of 73 and an even par 72 in the afternoon and is currently 1-over par for the tournament. She is just one shot back of jumping into the top 10. John also carded an even par 72 in the second round, but shot a 2-over 74 in the morning to sit just behind Gailey in a tie for 15
th at 2-over for the tournament. Both Gailey and John were able to avoid anything worse than bogey on their scorecards today.
Kayla Nocum is the third-ranked Pack player in the lineup in a tie for 37
th place. Nocum went 76-74 on the day and is currently 6-over par.
Anitra Khoth and
Maddy Zunino are both tied for 65
th at 13-over par, and
Kathleen Keomahavong, who is entered as an individual this week, is in 84
th at 25-over.
There are seven players under par after the first two rounds, led by Fresno State's Harriet Lynch. Lynch shot rounds of 68 and 66 today and is 10-under par with a three-shot lead heading into the final round.
