AUSTIN, TEXAS. – The Wolf Pack track and field team competed in both the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational, which saw plenty of student-athletes earn new personal bests throughout the day.
At the Bobcat Invitational, freshman Kylie Burton and junior Shelby Garrison both earned personal bests in the 400 meter hurdles. Burton's time of 1:02.77 was good enough for a new personal best, and a third place finish in the finals. Garrison would finish with a time of 1:05.00, earning her an 11th place finish.
Burton wasn't the only Antelope HS native to get a new personal best on the day. At the Texas Relays, junior Brooke Carson earned a new personal best in the 100m dash. Her time of 12.35 beat her old mark of 12.74.
The distance runners would all finish the top-10 in the 5000m run at the Bobcat invitational. Senior Stefanie Ortega finished second overall with a time of 17:08.16. This just below the 10th Nevada all-time mark of 17:06.44 set by Denise Danielson. Sophomore Tabatha Walford finished in third overall with a time of 17:29.19. In seventh place, senior Lauryn Massic finished with a time of 17:55.41. Lastly, just behind her was junior Kate Rye with a time of 17:55.45.
The Bobcat Invitational also saw another Wolf Pack freshman earn a new personal best and top-three finish. Lillian Gregg competed in the 400m dash, where the freshman finished with a time of 58.61. This time not only earning the freshman a new personal best, but also placing her second in the finals.
The long jump at the Bobcat Invitational had four Pack athletes compete throughout the day. Sophomore Olaia Becerril not only advanced to the long jump finals, but also earned a new personal best. Her distance of 5.64m put her at 10th in the event and was the top mark by the Wolf Pack.
Junior Gabby Fraser finished the event in 15th with a distance of 5.37m. Just under her personal best of 5.39m. Junior Hanah Smrt finished just below Fraser in 16th with her distance of 5.36m. Freshman Maria Varas would end the meet in 17th with a distance of 5.34m.
Lastly, senior Nicola Ader competed in the long jump at the Texas Relays and finished 12th in the event with a distance of 6.06m. Both Ader and sophomore Anna Maria Sommerfeld competed in the 100m hurdles. Ader finished with a time of 14.54 while Anna Sommerfeld finished with a time of 15.10.
The Wolf Pack will look to continue competing tomorrow in Texas in the Bobcat invitational.
