RENO, Nev. – After a strong finish to the Lamkin San Diego Classic last week, Nevada men's golf senior
Sam Meek has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.
Meek was instrumental in helping guide the Wolf Pack to a runner-up finish in a loaded 20-team field in San Diego last week. As a team Nevada finished the event at 10-over par, just six shots back of tournament winner UCLA. With that second place finish the Wolf Pack placed above three top 30 teams in the nation in No. 26 Kansas, No. 22 New Mexico and No. 20 and tournament host San Diego State.
Individually Meek earned a top 15 finish in the 112-player field, tying with teammate
Sam Harned for the best individual finish on the team. It was how Meek finished the event though that was impressive. After ending round one in a tie for 74
th place, Meek turned the corner for the final two rounds of competition. In Tuesday's second round he carded a 1-under 71 and followed that up with a 3-under 69 in the final round to jump 63 spots into a tie for 11
th place at the conclusion of the event. He played his final two rounds at 4-under par and made eight birdies during that 36-hole stretch.
Nevada will be back in action March 20-21 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
