Nevada opens the season against New Mexico on Feb. 5-6 for a two-match series. The Pack will face 10 Mountain West programs this spring during its conference-only slate. BACK IN ACTION
Nevada is back in action for the first time since its match against Colorado State on Nov. 23, 2019. The Pack finished its 2019 season with a 17-13 overall record, tying for sixth in the Mountain West Conference.Â
SEASON AT A GLANCE
The Pack is set to host New Mexico, Colorado State and Air Force its first three weekends of the 2021 season before traveling back-to-back weekends to San Diego State and San Jose State. Nevada hosts Boise State for a two-match series on March 12-13. After Boise State, the Pack travels for back-to-back matches against Wyoming and Utah State on March 20 and 25. Nevada will finish the regular season hosting UNLV on March 27 and Fresno State on April 1 for Senior Night.Â
RENO'S OWN
Nevada's roster features three Reno natives: junior Kaila Spevak (McQueen HS) and freshmen Alyssa Zuro (Damonte Ranch) and Lexi Applebach (Damonte Ranch). This is the first time since 2018 there have been multiple Reno natives on the Wolf Pack roster.Â
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
The Pack added four newcomers for the 2021 season, including redshirt junior transfer Chelsea Vaughan (Idaho State) and freshmen Reka Monteleone (Murrieta, Calif.), Alyssa Zuro (Reno, Nev.) and Lexi Applebach (Reno, Nev.). Vaughan will add depth to the setter position, joining sophomore Andrea Alcaraz. Monteleone and Zuro add depth to the OHs. Applebach joins junior Kaila Spevak and sophomore Mandalay Rennon as a defensive specialist.Â
Zuro, who starred at Damonte Ranch High School, helped lead the Mustangs to a 28-5 record and a regional playoff semifinals appearance. As a senior, Zuro tallied 218 kills and was named to the 4A All-League team. Monteleone helped Vista Murrieta win the Division I state championship. Applebach, who played with Zuro at Damonte Ranch, was named the Damonte Ranch Female Athlete of the Year and registered 238 digs as a senior.
WILD PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH
Korrin Wild was promoted to associate head coach on Sept. 1 after serving as an assistant coach for one season for the Pack. Prior to Nevada, Wild spent the 2017-18 seasons as an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific. A graduate of Fresno State, Wild ranks among the volleyball program's top 10 for all-time kills, digs, aces and sets played. She was named All-Mountain West First-Team as a senior.Â
MAKING HER WAY INTO THE RECORD BOOKÂ
Sophomore middle blocker Sydney Petersen paved her way into the Nevada record book as a freshman. Petersen's 137 block assists in 2019 are an individual season record at Nevada. Petersen's .317 hitting percentage and 147 total blocks during her 2019 campaign rank second in Nevada history.Â
