Game Preview: Boise State

RENO, Nev. – Following a dramatic 73-70 win at UNLV on Monday that included a game-winning 3-pointer from junior Da'Ja Hamilton with 1.3 seconds on the clock, Nevada continues its eight-game road swing with a pair of games at the defending Mountain West champions, Boise State.

The first of the two games will be held this Friday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. PT and the second game will take place this Sunday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. PT.

The Wolf Pack is on a bit of a roll as of late, having won three of its last four games after a sweep of Wyoming and a series split with UNLV. The Broncos on the other hand will be looking to snap a four-game slide. Boise State, having been one of the top teams in the Mountain West for a number of years, enters the weekend with a seven-game win streak over Nevada that dates back to the 2017-18 season.

ON THE AIR
Josh Suchon will have the call in Northern Nevada on CBS Sports Radio 94.1 FM and 1450 AM with a 20 minute pregame show prior to tipoff for both games. Fans can also tune in to listen to Suchon's broadcast online at TuneIn.com or via the TuneIn app.

Both games will also be live streamed on the Mountain West Network.

QUICK HITS
• With four wins, Levens will reach 100 victories in her Division I career
• Nevada will play six games on the road before returning home
Da'Ja Hamilton's 32 points at UNLV are the most in the MW this season
• Boise State has a 7-game win streak over Nevada dating back to 2017-18

SERIES HISTORY
Nevada and Boise State is one of the longest running series' in program history. This weekend will mark the 61st and 62nd matchups all-time between these two programs. It's been the Broncos though that have held a huge upper hand in the all-time series, winning 43 of the previous 60 contests. Boise State enters this weekend's games having won the last seven meetings against Nevada. The last time the Wolf Pack defeated the Broncos was during head coach Amanda Levens' first season, a 72-68 upset in Boise in January of 2018.

LAST TIME OUT (W, 73-70 at UNLV)
Da'Ja Hamilton hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds to go
• Hamilton finished with a career-high 32 points on 12-of-23 shooting
Nia Alexander also scored in double figures, adding 13 points
• Nevada outrebounded UNLV for the second consecutive game
Amaya West dished out a career-high five assists to zero turnovers
• Nevada totaled 17 made triples over the course of the two-game series

DA'JA, DA'JA, DA'JA
Junior Da'Ja Hamilton had the game of her life Monday at UNLV. Not only did the southern California native hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds on the clock to break a 70-70 tie, but she finished the contest with a career-high 32 points, the first 30-point game of her career. Hamilton's 32 points at UNLV rank as the most points in a single game by a Mountain West player this season. In the game she connected on 12-of-23 from the field and was 4-of-7 from the 3-point line, but really caught fire in the fourth quarter. Hamilton's first triple of the game was a half court heave at the buzzer just before halftime, sending Nevada to the locker room trailing by only two. Her other three triples all came in the fourth quarter, helping Nevada to keep pace with UNLV, and eventually, seal the win for the Wolf Pack.

ON A ROLL
The Wolf Pack is on a bit of a roll as of late, having won three of its last four games. This four-game stretch has included a two-game sweep of Wyoming and a series split against in-state rival UNLV, which included the Pack's first regular series win against UNLV in Las Vegas in program history. Nevada is now 8-7 overall this season and 4-6 in conference play, which puts the team seventh in the conference standings, just one game back of sixth-place Boise State, so a pair of wins over the Broncos this weekend would be a huge boost in the league standings for Nevada.

During this four-game stretch Nevada is averaging just over 61 points per game, but it's been the defense that has been the selling point, holding opponents to 58.5 points per game, including a season-low of 50 for Wyoming in the second game of that series. Nevada's 3-point shooting has also been a point of emphasis during this stretch, specifically during the series at UNLV. In the two games against the Lady Rebels, Nevada hit 17 3-pointers, including a season-high nine in the first game. Overall Nevada shot 40 percent from beyond the arc at UNLV, well above its season average of 26.1 percent.

MILESTONE WATCH
Nevada has a few players who are approaching milestones, some of whom could hit those numbers over the span of the next two games.

Leta Otuafi - 18 points shy of 100
Bethany Carstens - 25 points shy of 400
Da'Ja Hamilton - 45 points shy of 600

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON
Nevada head coach Amanda Levens is nearing a milestone in her head coaching career as she is just four wins shy of reaching 100 in her career. Levens took over the Wolf Pack in 2017-18 and holds a record of 54-59 while with Nevada. In her two head coaching stints, which includes three plus seasons at Nevada and four seasons at the helm at Southern Illinois, Edwardsville, she owns an overall career record of 96-135. In both head coaching stints she took over struggling programs, attempting to rebuild.

ON THE ROAD...AGAIN
Nevada is currently in the middle of an eight-game road swing and will not be back at Lawlor Events Center for a home game until Feb. 24 and 25 when the Wolf Pack welcomes in Utah State to close the regular season. Last week the Pack wrapped up a series at UNLV, will play two games at Boise State this weekend, and then will spend an entire week in the state of Colorado as it faces Air Force Feb. 15 and 16 and then the top-ranked team in the conference Colorado State Feb. 19 and 21. February was always a long travel month for the Wolf Pack, but with the make-up dates announced for the series at Air Force that had originally been postponed from December, Nevada landed two more road games on its schedule.

ALEXANDER, HAMILTON NOTCH CAREER MILESTONES
During the weekend against Wyoming, senior Nia Alexander and junior Da'Ja Hamilton both notched personal career milestones. Alexander, who began her career at the University of San Francisco and played two seasons for the Dons, reached the 700 point mark in her collegiate career. The Washington native scored 383 points in her two seasons at USF and has scored 337 to date at Nevada. Her most productive season so far came during the 2018-19 season with the Dons where she produced 224 points and shot over 45 percent from the field.

Hamilton, in her junior season, scored her 500th point in her collegiate career against Wyoming. She is in the middle of her most offensively productive season as she leads the team and ranks in the top 10 in the Mountain West averaging 14.7 points per game through 15 games this season. Coming into the 2020-21 season, her highest scoring average for a season was 6.2 points per game, which came from the 2019-20 campaign.

UP NEXT: ROAD SWING CONTINUES
Nevada is in the middle of an eight-game road swing, which will continue next with an entire week in the state of Colorado. The Wolf Pack will make up its two-game series with Air Force, which had been postponed in December, on Feb. 15 and 16 and then remain in the state to take on the top-ranked team in the Mountain West, Colorado State, that weekend Feb. 19 and 21.
