RENO, Nev. – In the series finale match to Air Force on Saturday, the Nevada volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-14) decision to the Falcons.
The Wolf Pack (1-5, 1-5 MW) got a team-leading seven kills from
Alyssa Zuro, followed closely by six from Sydney Peterson. Andrea Alcarez was the team's leader in assists, producing 19 and also led with three service aces during the match. As a team the Wolf Pack recorded six blocks, getting two each from
Kassie McGill and
Brianna Souza.
The first set could have gone either way as Nevada and Air Force (3-3, 3-3 MW) found themselves tied at 24 as the first set neared its end. Neither team led by more than three points throughout the set. With the score tied at 24, back-to-back service aces by the Falcons sealed the set win.
Air Force didn't begin to pull away from Nevada in set two until the midway mark, going on an 9-4 run to build up a 17-10 lead. From there the Falcons held the Pack to just four more points in the remainder of the set to take the 25-14 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match. It was a similar story in set three as the Falcons began to pull away around the midway mark and notched the last two points of the set to take the set win, 25-14, and the match win, 3-0.
Nevada will hit the road for the first time this season next week as it will travel to San Diego, Calif. to face San Diego State Feb. 26 and 27.
