Box Score RENO, Nev. – For the first time since 2018, and just the third time since joining the Mountain West in 2012, the Nevada volleyball team took a set off the conference powerhouse, but the Wolf Pack ultimately came up short, falling 3-1 to Colorado State on Friday night at the Virginia Street Gym.

Nevada fell to 0-3 with the setback. Colorado State improved to 2-1. The teams will run it back Saturday at 6 p.m. in the modified Mountain West scheduling format for the 2020-21 season

The teams battled back and forth through the first set with 11 ties and three lead changes. Tied at 21, Nevada got a huge kill from
Reka Monteleone as Nevada reeled off the final four points, including an ace from Monteleone to close out the win, 25-21.Â

Nevada, which game into the match hitting just .214 on the young season, hit .429 in the set-one victory. That marked the first time Nevada took a set from the Rams since September of 2018.

Nevada had its chances to take control of the match. The Pack had things tied up late in both of the ensuing sets but CSU pulled away late in each, 26-24 in set two, and 25-23 in set three, re-take control of the match.

The Rams pulled away in the fourth set, 25-14 to win it.

Sydney Petersen led the way for the Pack with 14 kills.
Kassie McGill added 12 and had a match-high six blocks for the Pack.

After Saturday's match against CSU, Nevada will be back in action next week when the Air Force Falcons make their way to Reno. The teams will play a pair of afternoon matches, 1 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. A live stream will be available at NevadaWolfPack.TV.
