Pack leads as Ram Classic suspended in second round

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Nevada women's golf sits atop the leaderboard of the Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club, as the first day of the event was suspended due to darkness late into the second round Monday.

The Wolf Pack (-3) finished its second-round play with a combined 284 which was five shots less than the 289 to mark its lowest score of the season prior to the event being suspended due to darkness.

The 284 in the second round is good for the fourth all-time single-round score tying two other competitions (2018-19, Battle at the Rock; 2000-01 Ram Fall Classic). Nevada continues its impressive performances at the Ptarmigan Country Club, where four of its all-time top-10 rounds have been recorded (two today).

Current standings are unofficial, as the completed scorecards were not turned in nor confirmed to officially end the second round.

Second-round play will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Play will be continuous, with players immediately beginning the third and final round upon the conclusion of the second.

Head Coach Kathleen Takaishi on a successful day. "We played great today. The team did a good job during the practice round learning the course and getting a feel for the speed of the greens. It's great to have two of our players at the top of the leaderboard and Victoria (Gailey) and Anitra (Khoth) played very well."

Coach Takaishi continued about what we should expect from tomorrow's action. "Tomorrow should be fun! Our team is planning on taking advantage of the score-able par five's and playing smart golf."

Victoria Gailey fired a three-under 69 to complete the first round tied for first with Ellen Nicholas of Incarnate Word. Gailey dropped an eagle three on par-five 510-yard hole two and then hit for par on all but three of her remaining holes with one bogey and two birdies. Gailey played steady golf in the second round as she birdied the second hole, played for par through the turn, and birdied the 16th hole before a bogey on 17 to finish the round at one-under 71 and in second place.

Anitra Khoth finished round one tied for fourth at one-under 71. Khoth's first-round score matched the lowest score of her career, and she has accomplished that single-round low for the second time this season. She made four birdies and went into the 14th hole at two-under-par but dropped a shot on that hole to finish her round one-under. Khoth started off the second-round on fire as she posted five birdies including back-to-back on the first and second holes to complete her round in first place and at four-under 68, the lowest round of her career.

Leah John was tied for 16th after firing a one-over 73 during the first 18 holes of play. John made two birdies, one on the second hole and one on 16 but a bogey on 18 dropped her to even for the back-nine and one-over for the round. John shot one-over 73 during the second round to move up five spots and tie for 11th.

Kaitlin Fleiner posted a four-over 76 and Danni Ujimori tied for 44th during the first 18 holes of play. Fleiner completed the second round with an even 72 (+4) and move up to tie for 22nd and Ujimori shot five-over 82 to drop to 10 over and tied for 66th.

Nevada finished its second round before the remainder of the round was postponed due to darkness with most of the teams on holes 16-18.
