Pack earns runner-up spot at Jackrabbit Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – In its spring season debut the Nevada men's golf team earned a second place finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational on Saturday.

The Wolf Pack had a tough hill to climb to try and overtake tournament champion Oral Roberts, beginning the day 12 shots back. Oral Roberts ran away with the team title, finishing at 15-under par and the only team in the field of 13 to finish the event under par. After a 9-over par final round, Nevada was 7-over for the tournament, still seven shots ahead of third place Texas State.

While no Wolf Pack golfer turned in a round under par on the final day, Nevada was led by one of its seniors in Sam Harned. Harned carded a 1-over 73 on the final 18 holes to grab sole possession of sixth place. It marks Harned's fourth top 10 finish of the season, including the fall campaign. He finished the event at 2-under par and as the only Pack golfer to finish under par for the weekend.

Also grabbing a top 10 finish was senior Sam Meek, who tied for ninth place in the 84-player field. Meek carded a 3-over 75 on Saturday to finish at even par for the tournament. Sophomore Trey Davis managed a top 25 showing as he tied for 24th at 5-over par after shooting a 76 in the final round. Both freshman Connor Motherway and senior Tony Gil finished just outside of the top 25 but did still snag a top 30. Motherway posted a tie for 26th while Gil tied for 29th place.

Nevada had two competing as individuals at this event as well. Sophomore Peyton Callens notched a tie for 22nd place after carding a 2-over 74 on Saturday to finish at 4-over overall. Redshirt freshman Mitch Abbott tied for 62nd.

Dustin Hasley of Oral Roberts won the individual title at 13-under par, besting Texas State's Logan Lockwood by four shots.

Nevada will return to competition March 23-24 at the Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
