SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Nevada women's golf team earned a seventh place finish at the Gunrock Invitational on Tuesday, completing its second event of the spring.
The Wolf Pack posted its best team round of the tournament on Tuesday shooting a 301, which was 12 strokes better than its second round score and 20 better than its first round score. All six Wolf Pack golfers entered in the event posted their best scores of the tournament on the final day. Nevada finished the event at 71-over par and in seventh in the 12-team field. With tough scoring conditions all tournament long, no team was able to finish under par. Pac-12 member California won the event at 23-over par, 10 shots better than runner-up and tournament host Sacramento State.
Nevada got two top 20 finishes in the 72-player field, led by sophomore
Danni Ujimori's sole grab of 13
th place. Ujimori carded the best Wolf Pack round of the tournament with an even par 72 on the final day. She finished the event at 10-over par, just two shots back of recording a top 10. Ujimori posted a balanced day on the course, totaling two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars. Fellow sophomore
Victoria Gailey also placed in the top 20, grabbing the 18
th spot. She too recorded her best round of the event on Tuesday with a 1-over 73 to finish at 13-over par for the tournament.
Newcomer
Kayla Nocum, who was entered as an individual this week, recorded a tie for 38
th place, setting a season best finish. She turned in a season-low round as well on Tuesday with a 5-over 77. Freshman
Leah John tied for 43
rd after carding a 79 in the final round and senior
Katy Rutherford finished right behind her in a tie for 49
th after posting a 77 on Tuesday. Senior
Jenny Krause rounded out the Pack lineup in a tie for 56
th.
Katherine Zhu of California won the individual event as the only golfer to finish the tournament under par. Zhu finished 1-under par after carding a 4-under 68 on the final day.
Nevada will next head to Kailua, Hawai'i to participate in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational March 10-11 at Kaneohe Klilpper Golf Club.
