KAILUA, Hawai'i – The Nevada women's golf team earned a tie for eighth place as it concluded the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
The Wolf Pack posted a team score of 305 (+17) on the final day to tie with Yale for eighth at 34-over par. No. 3 Arizona State ran away with the team title, finishing as the only team under par at 12-under. The Sun Devils finished 19 shots ahead of TCU for first place.
Freshman
Leah John led the Wolf Pack at the event, tying for 13th place before signing for a wrong score and thus being disqualified. John carded a 1-over par 73 in all three of her rounds to finish the event at 3-over par. For the tournament, John posted seven birdies and added 38 pars to her scorecard.
It was sophomore
Danni Ujimori though who fired the low Wolf Pack round of the tournament as she turned in an even par 72 in the final round. With that even par round, Ujimori jumped 20 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for 24
th place at 7-over par. Fellow sophomore
Victoria Gailey also scored a top 25 finish with Ujimori at 7-over. Senior
Katy Rutherford tied for 35
th after she posted a 76 in the final round and finished 10-over for the event. Senior
Jenny Krause rounded out the Pack lineup in a tie for 68
th.
Linn Grant of Arizona State, the eighth ranked player in the nation, won the individual championship. Grant bested Sabrina Iqbal of TCU on the fifth playoff hole to claim the title. Both players finished the tournament at 7-under par.
Nevada will return to the course March 30-31 at the Fresno State Classic.
