KAILUA, Hawai'i – After 36 holes of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course, the Nevada women's golf team is in sixth place.
The Wolf Pack is just five shots back from jumping into the top five as it sits at 17-over par for the tournament. Nevada carded a team score of 297 in the opening round and followed that up with a 296 in round two to sit in sixth in the 16-team field with 18 holes remaining. No. 3 Arizona State paces the field as the only team currently under par at 12-under. The Sun Devils will take a 15-shot lead over Ohio State and TCU into Wednesday's final round.
Nevada had two players lead the way on day one as sophomore
Victoria Gailey and freshman
Leah John recorded an identical day on the course. Both Gailey and John carded rounds of a 1-over 73 in both rounds on Tuesday and are 2-over for the tournament in a tie for 13
th place. Gailey notched six birdies on the day, including three straight to open the first round. John played a balanced day totaling four birdies, 26 pars and nothing worse than a bogey.
Elsewhere for the Wolf Pack, senior
Katy Rutherford will enter the final round in a tie for 37
th after shooting rounds of 74 and 76 on Tuesday. Sophomore
Danni Ujimori is right behind Rutherford at 7-over par for the event and in a tie for 45
th. Rounding out the Pack lineup is senior
Jenny Krause who is tied for 65
th at 13-over par.
Linn Grant of Arizona State leads the individual field at 6-under par, two shots ahead of Kennesaw State's Tai Anudit.
