RENO, Nev. – After a long last month of indoor competition, the Wolf Pack looks to finish on a high note in the Mountain West Indoor Championship.
Junior Nicola Ader highlighted the Mountain West Championship last season as she set three personal records in the pentathlon and tied the school record in the high jump. The junior this year will only compete in the high jump as Ader has only competed in one regular season meet this season. A meet that saw her break the school record in the 60 meter hurdles.
Last year's Mountain West Championship also saw another Pack member break a school record. Senior Gaby Palmer broke her own school record in the pole vault last championship which earned her a third-place bronze medal in the event. Palmer will look to continue her success as she competes in the pole vault this meet.
Sophomore Emily Costello, who had a very successful indoor season in 2020, also saw success in the Mountain West Championship last year as she made it to the finals in the 400m dash. This year, the Mountain West will see Costello compete in the 200m dash which is the event the sophomore broke the school record in at the Boise State Challenge.
As well as the 200m dash, Costello will also be competing in the 4x400m relay. The sophomore will be competing with freshman Kelise Davis, junior Lauren Green, and junior Karoline Sauer. Sauer in the span of the indoor season has moved into the top-10 in three different events at Nevada. The junior moved into seventh in the 800m run, second in the 400m dash, and broke the school record in the 600m dash.
Sophomore Gabby Fraser who competed in the triple jump last year will also be competing in it again. Fraser is currently 10th at Nevada in the triple jump, just behind teammate freshman Rayven Nealey who will also be competing in the triple jump. The freshman moved into eighth all-time at Nevada in the New Mexico Team Open.
Long distance runners will be highlighted at the Mountain West Indoor Championship by four Pack members. Junior Hiley Dobbs, sophomore Lauryn Massic, and freshman Alexis Melendrez will be competing in the 5000m run. All three Pack members had success in the 3000m run but will move up in competition as they compete in the 5000m run.
The only Pack member that will be competing in the 3000m run is junior Carli Corpus. The junior finished second in the event in the final regular season meet of the indoor season with a time of 10:18.88.
Finally, the Pack will have two student-athletes competing in throwing events. Senior Brandi French and sophomore Grace Wills will compete in the shot put and weight throw. Wills has been improving as the sophomore in the last meet of the indoor regular season beat a personal best in the shot put.
The Pack will conclude the indoor season this week as it competes in the Mountain West Indoor Championship this Thursday until Saturday. Those who want to watch the meet must have a FloTrack account and can watch at http://bit.ly/2VglHA2.
