RENO, Nev. – With aspirations to take back the conference title, the Nevada swimming and diving team is set to compete at the Mountain West Championships on Feb. 19-22 in Minneapolis, Minn. The Wolf Pack has been training and preparing for the conference meet since its last time in the pool, when Nevada took down New Mexico in Reno, Nev. almost three weeks ago.
On top of taking down the Lobos 189-109, the Wolf Pack came out strong recording four events of a first, second and third finish. The freshman class came together, led by
Benedict Nagy, who won the 200 back and the 400 IM while returners in
Donna dePolo,
Wiktoria Samula and
Josien Wijkhuijs all claimed wins in the meet.
The Pack also took both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, courtesy of sophomore
Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez who went on to collect her fourth MW Diver of the Week accolade and third this season.
Nevada currently has at least one member of the team in the top 10 in 15 events not only that but eight swimmers are in the top 5 of their respective events including senior
Andressa Cholodovskis who leads the Mountain West in the 200 free and 200 IM for the second year in a row. On top of the individual rankings the Pack has a top five relay squad in four of the five relays.
Not only are the swimmers ranked highly in each event but the divers are all ranked in the top five multiple times in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Jessie Nowotny, a freshman diver, is the highest ranked for Nevada - in second place - within the 1-meter while Lopez is second in the 3-meter.
