LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After 36 holes of the Rebel Beach Invitational, the Nevada women's golf team is tied for sixth place in the 11-team field.
The Wolf Pack carded a team round of 297 in the opening round and followed it up with a 298 in the afternoon. Nevada currently sits at 19-over par, placing the Pack in a three-way tie for sixth with UC Irvine and Long Beach State with 18 holes remaining. No. 3 USC is dominating the tournament as the Trojans will enter the final round at 18-under par and with a 14-shot lead over Fresno State. The Trojans and Bulldogs are the only two teams under par.
On day one the Wolf Pack was led by freshman
Leah John, who enters Tuesday's final round tied for 15
th in the 66-player field. John posted a solid morning round, carding a season-low 71, and followed that up with a 2-over 74 in the second round. She recorded three birdies on the day and did not commit anything worse than a bogey on her scorecard.
Right behind John in a tie for 21
st is sophomore
Danni Ujimori, who is currently at 4-over par. Ujimori shot a 75 in the morning and shaved two strokes off of her score to post a 1-over 73 in round two. Senior
Katy Rutherford carded rounds of 75 and 74 on Monday and enters the final round tied for 26
th. Sophomore
Victoria Gailey is tied for 50
th after day one after posting rounds of 76 and 78. Newcomer
Kayla Nocum, who joined the Pack at the beginning of the spring semester, rounded out the list of Pack golfers and notched an 81 in the first round and a 77 in round two. Nocum is currently tied for 61
st.
