RENO, Nev. – Nevada women's basketball head coach
Amanda Levens has signed three to her 2020 recruiting class.
"I am excited to introduce the newest members of our Pack," said Levens. "Audrey, Natalie and Kaylee all exemplify what we are looking for in recruiting. They are motivated students, great teammates and have high standards for themselves in all they do."
Audrey Roden – 5-9 – Freshman – Guard – West Linn, Ore./West Linn HS
Roden, who is one of two signees out of the state of Oregon in this class, will graduate from West Linn High School in the town of West Linn. Last season Roden helped her team to a conference title and earned first team all-league honors in the process. She had previously been named second team all-league in 2019.
"I think this is a win-win situation as Nevada is lucky to be getting such a talented basketball player in Audrey and Audrey is lucky to be going to such a great school in the University of Nevada," said Roden's high school coach Brooke Cates. "Audrey is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached. She has an undeniable talent, incredible work ethic, can score from anywhere and is a true competitor."
Roden has increased her scoring output has her high school career has gone on, averaging 3.1 points per game as a freshman, to 13.3 in her sophomore year to 17.2 last season. She also increased her shooting percentage to 40 percent as a junior and averaged nearly four steals per game. Roden played AAU for NTNW EYBL and Cal Stars EYBL.
"Audrey is a skilled, athletic, and remarkably versatile guard. She has a high motor and basketball IQ and greatly impacts the game on both sides of the ball," said Levens. "With her tenacity on defense and determined scorer's mentality, we think that Audrey is a perfect fit for our program. Audrey is extremely driven, relentless and tough and we are excited to have her join our Pack."
Kaylee Borden – 5-6 – Freshman – Guard – Anadarko, Okla./Anadarko HS
Borden, a native of Oklahoma, has had a hand in the success at Anadarko High School helping her team to three consecutive conference championships from 2018-20 and an Oklahoma 4A state title in 2019. Borden has improved on the court in each of her high school seasons, increasing her points per game output from 9.5 points per game as a freshman, to 12.0 as a sophomore and to 15.0 as a junior. Part of the increase in that production can be attributed to her 3-point shooting as she connected on a career-high 44.8 percent from beyond the arc last season.
"I feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach a great young lady that possesses a rare combination of being a great athlete with tremendous work ethic, and is still wanting to grow as a player, as well as a person," said Borden's high school coach Jeff Zinn.
Following her junior year, Borden received an all-state honorable mention and was a two-time Oklahoma Vype 100 selection, a media outlet covering high school sports in Oklahoma. In addition to basketball, Borden is also an accomplished track and field athlete, capturing two conference long jump titles and an Oklahoma 4A state championship in the long jump in 2018. She played AAU for Oklahoma Unity and Texas U.
"Kaylee is a crafty, athletic guard who possesses a tremendous work ethic. She is an outstanding multi-sport athlete, true competitor and is relentlessly determined to succeed in everything that she does," said Levens. "We feel that Kaylee will be an awesome addition to our program bringing a tireless work ethic and commitment to winning."
Natalie Lathrop – 6-3 – Freshman – Forward – Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS
Lathrop, the only post player in the three-player class, hails from Tualatin High School in the same named town in Oregon. Throughout her high school career she has earned many accolades including an all-league honorable mention in 2019, an all-state honorable mention in 2020 and was named first team all-league in 2020.
"Natalie is so difficult to defend," said Lathrop's high school coach Wes Pappas. "She has a scorer's mentality – she never stops attacking, runs the floor extremely well and pounds the offensive glass. All that and from a kid that is as coachable as you could ever hope for."
She posted a career-year as a junior, averaging 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game to go along with shooting lights out at 52.6 percent. During that junior season Lathrop pieced together a triple-double against St. Mary's Academy, which included 35 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks in the win. She was near perfect in that game, hitting all 14 of her field goal attempts. She played AAU for Oregon Elite.
"Natalie brings great length to our inside game and a shot blocking presence in the paint. Her rebounding prowess matched by her ability to run the floor and thrive in a full court game are extremely rare qualities," said Levens. "She is extremely hard working, humble and eager to continue to develop her skill set at the collegiate level. We can't wait for Natalie to run with our Pack."
