Nevada drops road contest at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – The Nevada women's basketball team dropped a road contest at Boise State by the final of 54-40 on Saturday afternoon.

For the first time this season the Wolf Pack (7-7, 0-3 MW) did not have a double digit scorer. Senior Marguerite Effa led the team in both points and rebounds, totaling nine and five, respectively. It was a tough outing offensively for the Wolf Pack, which connected on just 27 percent of its shots for the game. Boise State (11-5, 3-1 MW) also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Nevada by a 52-35 margin.

It was the tale of two halves as the Wolf Pack owned the first and the Broncos took over in the second. Nevada held Boise State to just one made field goal in the first quarter and five points, while shooting 40 percent itself and posting 13 points. By halftime the Pack led 23-17, holding the Broncos to a first half season low point total.

Boise State took over at the midway mark of the third quarter, gaining its first lead of the game with 3:28 to play in that period. It was a lead the Broncos would not relinquish the rest of the game, keeping a 3-5 point lead until the middle portion of the fourth. Holding a five-point lead with 5:04 to play, the Boise State defense locked in and held Nevada without a point the remainder of the game.

Nevada returns home to Lawlor Events Center to host San José State next Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
