Pack volleyball continues season at San Francisco tournament

RENO, Nev. – Coming off a great showing at the Sacramento State Invitational, the Pack will look to carry the momentum on a bus trip to San Francisco, Calif. Nevada went 2-1 over the weekend and picked up wins against the Hornets of Sacramento State, 3-1 and Roadrunners of CSU Bakersfield, 3-1. 

The Pack will open the weekend facing Purdue Fort Wayne and UC Riverside on Friday and host school University of San Francisco on Saturday. The match against the Mastodons is set for 10 am and will be the first time the two teams have met. Following the match against Purdue Fort Wayne, the Pack will take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside at 4:30 pm. 

On Saturday, Nevada plays host team San Francisco at 3 pm. The Dons, the most familiar team to the Pack, currently hold the all-time record, 13-8, with 2017 being the most recent these two have seen each other. The only match that will be live stream for the weekend is the match between the Pack and the Dons on Saturday. However, live stats are available for each at nevadawolfpack.com/volleyballls. 

After the Pack went 2-1 at the Sacramento State Invitational, the tournament saw Kayla Afoa and Brianna Souza named to the All-Tournament team.  Afoa led the team i​n kills, attacks and aces while posting a career high in block assists with six against CSU Bakersfield while Souza was a consistent presence up front. Ryan Blackwood also had a standout weekend, including 32 digs against Sacramento State that put her at second in digs within a single match. 

The Wolf Pack had stellar defensive on weekend as well, the team combined for 35.0 total blocks in three matches and recorded 18 just in the CSU Bakersfield match along with 92 digs against Sacramento State. Freshman, Sydney Petersen had herself a match against the Roadrunners with 11.0 blocks in her career debut, which put her in the record books for third most blocks in a single match.
