RENO, Nev. – Nevada women's golf senior
Katy Rutherford has been named this week's Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.
In the Wolf Pack's second event of the fall season last week at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational, Rutherford turned in a career-best second place finish. The Calgary, Alberta native was steady all tournament long with rounds of 72, 71 and 72 to finish at 2-over par. Her 11 birdies in the 54-hole span were tied with one other for the tournament lead. Rutherford finished just three shots behind individual champion Allysha Mae Mateo of BYU, who was the only player in the field of 87 to stay under par.
Rutherford's strong play helped the Wolf Pack to a third place finish in the field of 16 teams, its first top five of the season. The Pack had a balanced week of scoring as it ranked fourth in the field with 32 birdies and second with 170 pars.
Nevada returns to the course at the Harbottle Invitational Oct. 14-15 at Tacoma Country Club in Lakewood, Wash.
