RENO, Nev. – After starting the season off with three straight weekends on the road, the Wolf Pack will finally be able to play on the home court in Virginia Street Gym. With a hot start to the season, the Pack (7-2) is looking to continue that momentum at the Nevada Invitational.
The Nevada volleyball program will be hosting three other teams this weekend in Gonzaga, Southern Utah and California Baptist with the matches beginning on Friday, Sept. 20 at 10 am.
The Pack will open the Nevada Invitational facing Southern Utah at noon before an evening match against Gonzaga at 7 pm on Friday. On Saturday, Nevada plays California Baptist at 1:30 pm. All of the matches, including the neutral site matches will be available on live stream as well as live stats at, nevadawolfpack.com/volleyballls.
Junior outside hitter,
Kayla Afoa was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after helping Nevada go 3-0 at the Portland State tournament and averaging 4.40 digs per set. Along with Afoa,
Brianna Souza was named the September Student-Athlete of the Month,
Sydney Petersen and
Dalyn Burns were named to the all-tournament team with Burns being named the MVP.
The Wolf Pack offense is currently led by Afoa who tallies 120 kills on the season, followed by Souza who has 77 kills of her own. Burns leads in assists with 353 and averages 10.70 assists per set and 2.45 digs per set while
Ryan Blackwood has 141 total digs. Petersen has the most blocks for the Wolf Pack with 45 on the season with the squad recording 81.
