RENO, Nev. – Softball's Julia Jensen and baseball volunteer assistant coach Abe Alvarez are the winners of the University of Nevada's 2018-19 Give Back Like Jack Community Service Awards.

The Nevada athletics department presents its Give Back Like Jack Community Service Awards annually to the student-athlete and staff member who best exemplify the dedication to community service that was the hallmark of longtime Reno and Sparks philanthropist Jack Reviglio's life.

"Julia and Abe are very deserving recipients of the Give Back Like Jack Award," said senior associate athletics director Rhonda Bennett. "They both share the Reviglio family's commitment to community service and understand the importance of giving back to the community that supports our student-athletes and teams."

A pitcher from Reed High School in Sparks, Jensen recently finished her sophomore year as a member of the Wolf Pack softball team. She helped lead the softball team to 275.5 hours of community service in 2018-19 – good for third among the Wolf Pack teams - including team efforts with the Special Olympics, the Ronald McDonald House and local elementary schools. In addition to the team events, Jensen also volunteered individually with Girls on the Run Sierras, Sierra Outreach Services and Habitat for Humanity this year. She is on pace to earn her bachelor's degree in neuroscience and is an active member of Nevada's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

In his first year on the Wolf Pack staff, Alvarez headed up the baseball team's community service efforts this season. The Wolf Pack completed 231 hours of community service, which ranked fourth among all Nevada teams. Nevada's efforts included volunteering at the Race for the Cure, Buddy Walk and When I Grow Up women's basketball game as well as participation in a pen pal letter exchange with students from Lemelson STEM Academy, activities with Reno American Little League and visits and events at local elementary schools. The baseball team also visited local fire stations throughout the year to thank the firefighters and first responders who serve the community.

The winners will each receive a plaque commemorating the honor, while a plaque honoring all recipients is displayed prominently in the Hall of Champions at Legacy Hall.
