SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Nevada track and field sophomore
Nicola Ader advanced to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in two different events today, in addition to the heptathlon that she qualified for after the regular season. In addition to Ader, junior
Karoline Sauer extended her season by advancing to tomorrow's national quarterfinal in the 400m hurdles.
Ader had already qualified for the national championships in the heptathlon before qualifying in the high jump as well. The native of Affolterbach, Germany finished with a clean sheet, reaching 5' 10.75" (1.81 meter) before the competition ended. No further jumps were attempted after the 48-person field was narrowed down to the 12 that will travel to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
The high jump was not enough. Ader followed it up with a leap of 20' 5.75" (6.24 m) in the long jump to finish seventh and add another event to her Austin itinerary. The mark came on her third and final attempt after reaching 18' 1.75" (5.53 m) on her first attempt and fouling her second.
"What an amazing performance and season for Nicola," said assistant coach
Scott Williamson, who oversees the jumps. "She has had one of the best seasons in school history and has placed herself as one of the best track and field athletes in the nation. We are excited for the final round of NCAA's in Austin as we think she still has room to improve."
In the 400m hurdles, Sauer shaved almost a second off her own school record with a time of 58.42 seconds to take second in her heat and automatically qualify for tomorrow's national quarterfinal. Even if the two-time-defending Mountain West champion had not automatically qualified as a top three finisher in her heat, the time is good for 12th on the day, putting her in the 24-person field for tomorrow. The top 12 finishers in tomorrow's race will advance to Austin.
Just weeks after taking a gold medal in the javelin at the Mountain West championships, sophomore
Alex Bohlman took fifth in her flight today. Bohlman's mark of 146' 3" (44.58 m) was good for 26th overall. Last season Bohlman took 30th at the meet last year with a mark of 141' 2" (43.02 m).
The night ended with sophomore
Hiley Dobbs taking 45th in the 10,000m with a time of 36:34.21.
The competition wraps up for the Pack tomorrow, beginning at 5:00 p.m. PT with junior
Gaby Palmer in the pole vault. Sauer's 400m hurdle quarterfinal will start at 7:00 p.m. PT, and senior
Lindsey Sickler runs in the steeplechase at 8:20 p.m. PT. The meet will be streamed on FloTrack and live results will be available at nevadawolfpack.com/tf.
