RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – With 36 holes complete at the 2019 Mountain West Championship, the Nevada women's golf team remains in third place.
The Wolf Pack carded a team round of a 15-over 303, shaving two strokes off of its first round score. With tough scoring conditions, Nevada played well on the front nine and was just 3-over par at the turn, one of the top team scores on the front side. The Pack then grinded through the rest of its round, shooting 12-over on the challenging back nine. Nevada is still in a good position though entering the final 18 holes, trailing No. 27 San Jose State for second by one shot and San Diego State for the lead by 10.
Senior
Kaitlin Collom, who began the day two strokes off the individual lead, shot a 78 in round two to drop to a tie for ninth place. Collom played well overall, but ran into trouble on the 13
th hole, carding a triple bogey. She sits at 7-over par for the tournament, tied with her teammate freshman
Victoria Gailey, who fired a 4-over 76 on Tuesday. Gailey played the front nine at even par, but committed bogeys on holes 13-16 to finish with a 76.
The best Wolf Pack round of the day goes to junior
Jenny Krause. Krause finished round two with a 2-over 74, making one birdie and 14 pars. She jumped five spots on the day into a tie for 12
th place in the 45-player field. Nevada features four of its counting scores in the top 15 as senior
Chaithra Katamneni enters the final round in 15
th. Katamneni moved up seven spots on the leaderboard thanks to a 3-over 75, besting her first round score by four shots. Freshman
Danni Ujimori carded an 81 on Tuesday and is in a tie for 39
th at 20-over par.
Brigitte Thibault of Fresno State, who played in the Augusta National Women's Amateur two weeks ago, leads the field by four strokes over Fernanda Escauriza of San Diego State. Thibault is the only player in the field currently under par at 3-under.
