FRESNO, Calif. – Playing in her third tournament of the season, freshman
Danni Ujimori is just one shot back of the lead at the Fresno State Classic with 18 holes remaining.
Ujimori recorded a career day out on the course at Copper River Country Club. In the opening round she carded an even par 72, which at the time set a career low. She followed that up, however, with a new career-low round of 69 in the afternoon. Ujimori now sits at 3-under par for the tournament in a three-way tie for second and is just one shot back of Christine Danielsson of UC Davis. She had just four blemishes in her 36 holes of golf today and tallied eight birdies, including five in round two.
As a team the Wolf Pack posted its better round of the day in the morning, shooting a 3-over 291, which put the team in third after the first round. Nevada followed that up with a 9-over 297 in the second round, which dropped it to sixth in the 14-team field with one round left. The Pack is at 12-over for the tournament, two shots behind Santa Clara for a top five spot. UC Davis has an eight-shot lead over Grand Canyon and is the only team under par at 6-under.
Elsewhere for the Pack, senior
Kaitlin Collom fired a season-low 71 for her opening round and posted a 77 in round two. She enters Tuesday's final round in a tie for 25
th in the 77-player field. Freshman
Victoria Gailey was pretty balanced in her two rounds of golf today, carding rounds of 74 and 75 to put her at 5-over for the tournament and in a tie for 32
nd. Senior
Chaithra Katamneni shot back-to-back rounds of 76 today to tie her for 42
nd currently, while junior
Jenny Krause's scores of 74 and 80 place her in a tie for 53
rd.
Nevada also had two entered into the event as individuals in freshman
Maddy Zunino and junior
Katy Rutherford. Zunino is currently tied for 69
th at 15-over par and Rutherford withdrew after the first round.
