SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Nevada women's golf team wrapped up play at the inaugural Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club and earned a sixth place finish.
The Wolf Pack combined for a team score of 304 in the final round and finished at 35-over par for the tournament to place sixth in the 11-team field. Nevada was just one stroke shy of finishing in the top five, placing just behind Grand Canyon. Tournament host Sacramento State won the event at 5-under par, 16 strokes better than runner-up California. The Hornets were the only team in the field to consistently stay under par throughout the event.
Nevada got strong play from one of its freshmen today as
Victoria Gailey fired an even par 72 and jumped 12 spots into a tie for 13
th. Gailey's even par round was her best of the three rounds and stabilized her at 5-over for the tournament. She collected three birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and 5, and added 12 pars to her round. Gailey has posted top 15 finishes in five of her seven events this season.
Elsewhere for the Pack, senior
Kaitlin Collom and junior
Jenny Krause each earned a tie for 22
nd place in the 67-player field. Collom shot a 76 during the final round, while Krause recorded a 78 to finish the event at 8-over par. Senior
Chaithra Katamneni also notched a round of 78 today to tie for 36
th place. Playing in her first collegiate event, freshman
Maddy Zunino tied for 43
rd after shooting a 77 in the final round, tying her low round for the week. Fellow rookie
Danni Ujimori, who was also making her collegiate debut this week, grabbed sole possession of 54
th and junior
Katy Rutherford finished just behind her in a tie for 56
th.
Corinne Viden of Sacramento State won the individual side of the event. Viden finished at 8-under par, five strokes better than runner-up Cindy Oh of California.
Nevada returns to competition March 17-19 at the Meadow Club Collegiate at The Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
