SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Following day one of the inaugural Gunrock Invitational, the Nevada women's golf team finds itself in fifth place in the 11-team field.
 
The Wolf Pack struggled in the early parts of the opening round, slipping near the bottom of the leaderboard. However, Nevada finished its first round strong and leapt up into the top five, finishing the opening round with a team score of 300. The Pack improved its play in the afternoon session as well, turning in a 295 in the second round. Nevada is 19-over par after two rounds and trails California by seven strokes for fourth place. Tournament host Sacramento State dominated the field today and is the only team under par. The Hornets are currently 7-under par and have a 17-shot lead over second place Coastal Carolina.
 
Nevada was led individually by junior Jenny Krause, who posted back-to-back rounds of 73 on the day. Krause recorded four birdies and 26 pars during her two rounds and is currently tied for eighth place in the 67-player field. She is 2-over par for the tournament and is eight shots behind the individual leader. Senior Kaitlin Collom also played well today, carding back-to-back rounds of 74, one off tying her season low. Collom tallied five birdies and enters the final round inside the top 20.
 
Freshman Victoria Gailey sits just outside the top 20 after firing rounds of 75 and 74 today and is tied for 25^th at 5-over par. Senior Chaithra Katamneni is at 8-over and tied for 31^st place, while junior Katy Rutherford rounds out the Pack lineup in a tie for 54^th. A pair of freshmen in Maddy Zunino and Danni Ujimori made their collegiate tournament debuts today and are both tied for 44^th after 36 holes of golf. Zunino carded rounds of 77 and 78, while Ujimori shot an 81 in the morning and rebounded nicely with a 2-over 74 in the second round.
