Gailey collects career high finish as Pack ties for eighth

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Posting her second consecutive top five finish, freshman Victoria Gailey led the Nevada women's golf team on the final day of the Rebel Beach Invitational.

As a team the Wolf Pack finished in a three-way tie for eighth place in the 16-team field on a cold and windy final day at Spanish Trail Country Club. The teams concluded the second round this morning after it was suspended yesterday and immediately went into the final round. The Pack's best round of the tournament came in round two when it carded a team score of 300. Nevada tied with Mountain West member New Mexico and also BYU at 58-over par, and finished just three shots back of Fresno State.

Last week Gailey recorded a tie for fifth place at the Battle at the Rock and followed that up with a career-best tie for third today. She was the only member of the Pack to shoot a round under par, carding a 1-under 71 in the second round. Gailey finished the event at 3-over, 10 shots behind individual winner Elizabeth Prior of UNLV. For the week she tallied eight birdies, including five in the first round.

The next highest finisher for the Wolf Pack was senior Chaithra Katamneni, who placed in a tie for 25th. Katamneni struggled on the final day, shooting a 7-over 79 but wrapped up an even par 72 for her second round this morning. Junior Jenny Krause fired the best Wolf Pack round of the day with a 3-over 75, earning her a tie for 50th place in the 86-player field. Krause collected two birdies to go along with 12 pars during her round. Fellow junior Katy Rutherford carded an 83 in the final round to tie for 79th and senior Kaitlin Collom grabbed the 82nd position after a round of 81 this afternoon.

UNLV's Elizabeth Prior was the only individual to finish the tournament under par. Prior won the event by seven strokes at 7-under par.

Nevada returns to competition in two weeks for the Gunrock Invitational March 4-5 at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif.
