RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Nevada women's golf team got in one full round of golf at the Battle at the Rock before the second round was suspended due to darkness.
The Wolf Pack's spring season debut was kicked off with a frost delay, setting the competition back two hours. With the late start the second round was halted just after the 15 teams made the turn and will resume Tuesday morning before the final set of 18 holes gets underway. In round one the Wolf Pack turned in a 13-over par round of 301 and found itself in seventh place. Currently in round two, Nevada is 11-over through 13 holes and is in ninth place. Cal Poly leads the field at 8-over par, six shots better than Cal State Northridge and Santa Clara.
Junior
Jenny Krause shot the best Wolf Pack round of the day with a 1-under 71 in the opening round. She made birdies on No. 1, 10 and 16 and had just two bogeys. Krause has struggled a bit so far in the second round but still leads Nevada in a tie for 19
th place. Freshman
Victoria Gailey carded a 2-over 74 in the morning and made three birdies on the day. She will pick up her play in round two in a tie for 30
th in the 87-player field.
In the first round senior
Chaithra Katamneni shot a 4-over 76 and is currently in a tie for 39
th place, while fellow senior
Kaitlin Collom is tied for 56
th after a first round 80. Junior
Katy Rutherford rounded out the list of Pack golfers with an 82 in the opening round and is in a tie for 63
rd.
Elizabeth Scholtes of Cal Poly leads the individual field at 2-under and has a one shot lead over three different golfers. There are just four golfers in the field of 87 who are currently under par.
Nevada will conclude its stay at the Battle at the Rock with the conclusion of round two and the final round on Tuesday.
