RENO, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team (16-8, 6-6) is set for a four-match road swing, beginning this week with San José State (8-15, 3-9) and Air Force (8-16, 5-7). After picking up wins over Utah State and Boise State last week, the Pack is looking to keep the momentum up.
Last week, Nevada was led offensively by junior middle blocker
Brianna Souza who posted an overall clip of .389 with 29 kills and just eight errors on 54 attacks. The Chico, Calif. native not only posted impressive offensive numbers but also led the Pack with 11.0 total blocks, one solo for an average of 1.57 per set.
Kayla Afoa continues to lead the squad in digs, just 68 away from notching 1,000 on her career, after posting 26 this past week for an average of 3.71 per set.
This week, the Pack matches up first with the Spartans of San José State on Tuesday at 6 pm in San Jose, Calif. to face the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week in Haylee Nelson. The sophomore, middle blocker is currently leading the team in kills with 258 while also accounting for 292 points. Defensively, Thaliana Grajeda leads with 66 blocks while Sarah Smevog has 367 digs.
Following the match with the Spartans, Nevada travels to the Air Force Academy on Saturday for a noon first serve. The Falcons handed the Pack its first loss at home this season in a 3-1 fashion; Nevada will be looking to return the favor.
The Falcons are led by both Bailey Keith and Denise Ssozi who have almost identical numbers in kills, Keith has 240 while Ssozi has 239 however Keith has played in three more sets than Ssozi. They both also have accounted for more than 250 points each. Alex King, on defensive, leads the team in digs with 382 while Taleah Cooper has 51.0 blocks.
Both matches will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network along with live stats available on nevadawolfpack.com. Following these two matches, the Pack will on the road for two more, against UNLV and New Mexico.
