FAIRFAX, Calif. – After 36 holes at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, the Nevada men's golf team sits just outside the top 10 in 11
th place.
Playing in a tough and competitive field, the Wolf Pack is 3-under par as a team with 18 holes remaining. Nevada carded a 1-over team round of 285 in the first round and then shaved five strokes off its score in round two with a 4-under 280. The Pack is eight shots behind San Diego to crack the top 10. Pepperdine leads the field at 29-under par, followed by Saint Mary's at 24-under.
The Wolf Pack was led on day one by senior
Sam Meek, who was the only member of the Pack to post both of his rounds at par or better. Meek carded an even par 71 in the morning and turned in a 4-under 67 in the afternoon to sit in a tie for 21
st in the 84-player field. He collected 11 birdies in his 36 holes of play, and had a near perfect round of golf in the second round. His only blemish in round two was a double bogey on No. 11.
Senior
Sam Harned is the only other Pack player currently under par as he sits in a tie for 39
th at 1-under. Harned posted a 3-under 69 in round one and followed it up with a 1-over 72. Sophomore
Trey Davis is just one shot behind Harned, even for the tournament and tied for 43
rd. Davis shot a 72 in the morning session and tied his season-low with a 70 in the second session. Senior
Tony Gil is currently tied for 60
th at 2-over par after rounds of 73 and 71. Rounding out the Pack lineup is redshirt freshman
Mitch Abbott, who is playing in his first collegiate event as part of the team lineup. Abbott is in 84
th place after shooting a 75 and 80 on the day.
Sean Yu of San Jose State leads the individual field at 15-under par after carding rounds of 61 and 66. Yu has a three-shot lead over Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine.
