Wolf Pack returns to the course for Cal event

RENO, Nev. – After a two-week hiatus, the Nevada men's golf team returns to the course to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday from the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The Wolf Pack last participated in this event two years ago, tying for fifth place. Senior Sam Harned, who was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Month this week, is the only current player to have competed in that event two years ago.

The field next week will feature 15 teams, with tournament-host California being the only Power 5 team scheduled to compete. Nevada will be able to square up against a number of Mountain West schools though with Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State all entered. Pepperdine, who is also set to participate, received a preseason ranking of No. 2 by Golfweek.

Head coach Jacob Wilner will send his usual four of seniors Sam Harned, Tony Gil and Sam Meek, along with sophomore Trey Davis to the tournament next week. New to the lineup will be redshirt freshman Mitch Abbott. Abbott redshirted last season and made his collegiate debut in the Wolf Pack's home event, the Wolf Pack Shootout on Sept. 23 playing as an individual. This will be Abbott's first collegiate tournament as part of the official team lineup.

Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
