Wolf Pack concludes fall season with top 10 finish

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team concluded the 2019 fall season with a 10th place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown from Boulder Creek Golf Club.

The Wolf Pack saved its best team round for last as it combined for a 5-over 293 on Tuesday, which ranked in the top half of the field. Nevada went from a team score of 318 in the opening round, to a 300 in round two, and closed out its run at this event with a 293. The Pack finished the tournament at 47-over par to claim a top 10 in the 18-team field. Not a single team in the field was able to finish under par, but the event was won by tournament host UNLV at 15-over par, eight shots above runner-up San Francisco.

Nevada was led by one of its freshman on the final day as rookie Anitra Khoth fired the low-Pack round of the entire tournament with a 1-under 71. Khoth was the only Nevada player to record a round under par this week. She totaled four birdies throughout her round, including three on her last 10 holes. Her sub-par round helped her jump 19 spots on the individual leaderboard and finish in a tie for 48th at 14-over par.

The Pack had two other finishers tie with Khoth in 48th as senior Jenny Krause and sophomore Danni Ujimori also finished at 14-over. Both Ujimori and Krause shot 2-over rounds of 74 on the final day, each posting their best rounds of the tournament. Sophomore Victoria Gailey was Nevada's top finisher however as she posted a tie for 37th place at 12-over par. Gailey also turned in a 2-over 74 on Tuesday, marking her best round of the event. Senior Katy Rutherford also shot a 74 in the final round to tie for 41st place at 13-over par.

Tereza Melecka of East Tennessee State and Elina Saksa of UNLV shared the individual title, both finishing at 4-under par. They were the only players in the field of 96 to finish the event under par.

Nevada will return to action for the 2020 spring season on Feb. 10-11 at the Battle at the Rock in Riverside, Calif.
