LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Nevada women's golf team claimed a third place finish at the Harbottle Invitational on Tuesday, marking its second consecutive third place finish.
The Wolf Pack moved up one spot on the final day, going from a tie for fourth place to sole possession of third in the 18-team field. Nevada shot a 4-over 292 on Tuesday, which was tied for the third-best team score of the final round. The Pack finished the tournament at 16-over par, seven shots behind tournament host Seattle for the runner-up spot. Gonzaga ran away with the team title as it finished the event at 4-under par, 13 shots better than Seattle.
Leading the way for Nevada was sophomore
Victoria Gailey, who picked up her first top five of the season and sixth of her career. Gailey grabbed sole possession of third place after carding her second straight 2-under round of 70. In Gailey's last 36 holes of competition she has played bogey free golf and collected four birdies. She finished at 2-under par for the tournament, just five shots behind individual champion Quynn Duong of Gonzaga and one shot behind runner-up finisher Elise Parel of Houston Baptist.
Nevada also got a top 10 showing out of fellow sophomore
Danni Ujimori. Ujimori tied for seventh place in the field of 95, marking her best finish of the season as well. She found herself 3-over par after 15 holes in Tuesday's final round, but recorded back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and 17 to secure a 1-over 73 and jump into the top 10.
Senior
Jenny Krause finished just outside the top 15, tying for 16
th place, her top finish this season. Krause shot a 2-over 74 on the final day to finish the event at 5-over par. Fellow senior
Katy Rutherford tied for 47
th after carding a 3-over 75 on Tuesday, and freshman
Leah John shot a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 57
th.
Nevada will conclude its fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. on Oct. 27-29.
