BOULDER, Colo.  – Nevada track and field sophomore
Nicola Ader shined in the pentathlon at day one of the Colorado Invitational. Ader set personal records in four of the five events, including the pentathlon, which she won.
Â
"I was very happy for Nicola, she works so hard and does all the little things right; for her to get through a full pentathlon with so many personal records is just so exciting," said coach
Scott Williamson, who oversees the multis. "We still have about four weeks until the Mountain West Championships, so I am excited to get back to training and fix a few things and see what she can accomplish."
Ader opened the day by moving into the top 10 at Nevada with a personal record in the 60 meter hurdles. The native of Affolterbach, Germany finished third with a time of 8.78 seconds. The time breaks her previous record of 8.86, set earlier this month at Boise State's Ed Jacoby Invitational in Idaho. The time also moves her into a three-way tie for the ninth best time in Nevada history. The time put her in third overall in the event and the pentathlon, with a score of 956.
Â
In the second event of the day, Ader once again found herself moving in the Nevada all-time list. Her high jump of 5' 10" (1.78 m) was a personal record and moved her into a tie for fourth all-time at Nevada. Her previous personal record of 5' 8.75" (1.76 m) was also set at this month's Ed Jacoby Invitational. The top finish moved her into first in the pentathlon with a score of 1,909. Ader would never relinquish the lead.
Â
Ader followed up with yet another personal record in the shot put, with a distance of 33' 10" (10.31 m). The record had stood since last year's Mountain West Championships, where Ader also won the pentathlon. Ader's point total was at 2,459 going into the final two events.
Â
In the long jump, Ader's leap of 18' 9" (5.71 m) landed her in third place in the event, keeping her in first place in the overall score with 3,221 points.
Â
In the day's final event, the 800 m, Ader finished with a time of 2:31.62, another personal record. The mark broke her previous record of 2:32.4, which was also set at last year's Mountain West Championship. The finish brought her point total to 3,894, sealing the victory.
Â
The 3,894 points mark is the top finish the Mountain West going into this weekend, and the 14th best in the nation. The score is another personal record for Ader, and falls just five points short of third on the Nevada all-time list.
Â
The Wolf Pack's field events team will be in action tomorrow, with the long jump kicking off at 8:00 a.m. PST.
