Nevada concludes run at Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The Nevada women's golf team concluded the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational with an 11th place finish in the 18-team field.

Nevada began the day right where it finished, but was just one shot back of recording a top 10 finish. The Wolf Pack carded a 12-over team score of 296 for its final round, ending the event with all three rounds under 300. This is the first time in program history that the Wolf Pack has not shot a round above 300 in its first two events. No. 23 Illinois held off a charge from San Jose State during the final round to capture the team title by five strokes. The Illini finished the tournament at even par.

Individually the Pack had its top two finishers tie for 29th place in the 90-player field. Junior Jenny Krause began the day one shot off the individual lead but struggled to find red numbers on her scorecard in the final round, shooting an 81. Freshman Victoria Gailey tied with Krause overall but carded the low round of the day for Nevada with a 2-under 69, a new collegiate-low. She totaled five birdies throughout her round and played her final seven holes at 3-under, helping her jump 31 spots on the leaderboard.

Also making a big jump today was senior Chaithra Katamneni, who put together her best round of the tournament with a 1-over 72. Katamneni gained 13 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 40th at 8-over par. Fellow senior Kaitlin Collom posted an identical score to what she had in round two with a 3-over 74. She finished the event at 14-over and in a tie for 63rd. Junior Katy Rutherford rounded out the list of Pack golfers in a tie for 85th.

Abegail Arevalo of San Jose State used a final-round 68 to jump eight spots on the leaderboard and capture the individual title. Arevalo won by just one shot over Crystal Wang of Illinois and Katherine Zhu of California.

Nevada will return to competition next weekend, Oct. 5-7, at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at Highlands Ranch Golf Club in Denver, Colo.
