COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – After 36 holes of the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational, Nevada women's golf junior
Jenny Krause is one shot back of the lead with one round to go.
The Wolf Pack as a team sits in 11
th place in the 18-team field after combining for rounds of 298 and 292 on the day. Nevada is currently at 22-over par but is just one shot back of cracking the top 10. No. 23 Illinois paces the field at 8-under for the tournament and will take a commanding 18-shot lead over San Jose State into Tuesday's final round.
Krause recorded a career day, firing a career-low 67 in the opening round. She was near perfect in her opening round with five birdies and just one bogey. Her round of 67 was the best individual score of the entire day and is tied for second-lowest in program history. In the afternoon Krause found herself leading by as many as four shots and finished her second round with a 1-over 72. She will head into the final round one shot back of Crystal Wang of Illinois.
The rest of the Nevada lineup struggled in the morning session, facing cold temperatures and high winds. However, most were able to improve their scores by at least four strokes in the afternoon round. Senior
Chaithra Katamneni went from a 77 in the opening round to a 1-over 73 in round two and is tied for 53
rd in the 90-player field.
Freshman
Victoria Gailey also improved her scores from rounds one to two, shooting a 78 in the morning and followed it up with a 73 in the afternoon. She enters the final round tied for 60
th. Senior
Kaitlin Collom posted the largest improvement of the day, shaving six strokes off her scores with an 80 and then a round of 74. Junior
Katy Rutherford carded rounds of 76 and 79 for her day and is currently tied for 76
th.
