Wolf Pack dominates at season opener

RENO, NV. - The Nevada swim team opened its season in the swim only meet against Oregon State on Friday evening. The Pack outscored the Beavers 53-28 and swept the events in convincing fashion.

"This was a great team effort," said head coach Brendon Bray. "I was really excited to see the freshmen start their first college meet. The goals of the day were to be competitive, be supportive of each other and try to get your hand on the wall first. I think we accomplished all of our goals."

The meet began with the 3x50 fly relay, where the Nevada A team comprised of sophomore Imogen Watson, junior Andressa Cholodovskis and senior Rebecca Murray notched a time of 1:16.60.

In the second event, a 3x50 backstroke relay, the Nevada A team tallied another win. This time it was the squad of senior Jamie Reynolds, senior Caitlyn Richardson and sophomore Watson who finished in 1:17.46.

With a time of 1:29.93, the Wolf Pack A team picked up another win in the 3x50 breaststroke with sophomore Donna dePolo, Cholodovskis and Reynolds.

The Nevada A team kept up with the winning ways after taking the fifth event, the 500-yard freestyle relay and the sixth, a 400 medley relay anchored by freshman Alexa Markl.

After Nevada claimed the 400 IM relay, the Pack relied on its experience to win the 400 freestyle relay, as all three seniors were on board. Richardson started the race off with fellow senior Reynolds as the anchor. The squad pulled the win out with a time of 3:29.35, almost seven seconds ahead of Oregon State.

"We really appreciate Oregon State coming up to race us and kick off our season and we are excited for next week," said Bray.

Up next, Nevada will travel to San Diego, Calif. to compete in a relay meet with San Diego State and Washington State at the Aztec Aquaplax. The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. PT.
