CLOVIS, Calif. - Kicking things off at the 2018 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Nevada Wolf Pack heptathletes completed day one of action Wednesday night.
Sophomore Alli Dickey currently sits in 10th with 2,861 points after the first day. Freshman Nicola Ader, the reigning indoor pentathlete champion, was forced to bow out of the competition early due to an injury suffered in the high jump. Dickey started the day strong in the 100 meter hurdles and is in position to score with eighth just 70 points away.
Things got off to a strong start in the 100 meter hurdles. Ader was able to trim some time off her personal best, crossing the finish line in 14.38 for 925 points. Dickey recovered well from a slight trip over the third-to-last hurdle to finish in 14.96, just .01 seconds off her career best time. She scored 847 points. After the first event, Ader sat in sixth while Dickey was 11th.
In the high jump, Ader claimed the top finisher spot with a mark of 5 feet and 7.25 inches (1.71m) to pick up 867 more points, but suffered an injury during warmups for the event. Dickey got over 5 feet and 2.5 inches (1.59m) for 724 points. They sat in third and 10th, respectively.
Neither was able to gain ground in the shot put as they headed to the 200 meter dash. Dickey finished in 26.27 second for 774 points. Ader did not start the race, bowing out of the heptathlon due to the previous injury.
Day two of the action will wrap up Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT as Dickey looks to string together a strong finish to score points.
